This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Fairgrounds Cafe — 4.1/5 ⭐ My wife and I decided to give Fairgrounds Cafe a try for breakfast, and overall we had a good experience with generous portions, friendly service, and some very flavorful food. My wife ordered the West Coast Benedict, which normally comes with two poached eggs served over cinnamon rolls along with bacon, avocado, tomato, hash browns, and hollandaise sauce. She substituted two slices of Texas toast for the cinnamon rolls. The bacon was excellent—flavorful and cooked right in that sweet spot between overly crispy and too chewy. It tasted like a hickory-smoked bacon and was one of the highlights of the meal. Her biggest criticism was the hollandaise sauce. It was noticeably sweet, and that sweetness took away from the bright, buttery, slightly tangy lemon flavor we normally expect from a good hollandaise. We also noticed that her serving of hash browns appeared to be roughly half the portion that came with my meal. I ordered the Western omelet without onions, filled with sausage, ham, green peppers, and cheddar cheese. The omelet itself was very good—hearty, flavorful, and absolutely loaded with ingredients. The portion was huge and could easily have fe

We were traveling through on our way home back to Texas and found this little gem on Google. The food was delicious and our waitress was phenomenal! We noticed that there were several “Regulars” coming in and our waitress knew what they wanted before they even sat down. I believe her name was Melodie. It was a long drive home, so I might have it wrong, but she was very friendly and inviting. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through Springfield, IL or visiting Springfield. You will not be disappointed! The prices were really very good. I got their version of the Grand Slam and it was under $10. The pancakes were MASSIVE! I couldn’t finish my meal because there was so much food, actually none of us were able to finish our food. The best eggs I’ve ever had as well! I could go on and on about this place, just go try it for yourself if you’re in the Springfield area!

Very good food, friendly staff and super clean. The coffee is great and the breakfast is top notch. It's a small place and gives that small town community feeling. It's the place where you want to try everything ✨️.

Stopped in for breakfast and was not disappointed. The eggs were cooked perfectly over easy, the home-fried potatoes had that golden crisp edge, and the corned beef hash was hearty and full of flavor — not greasy like you get at some places. The toast was warm and buttered just right, and the coffee kept coming, hot and strong. Service was friendly and fast, and the place has that cozy, old-school diner vibe where everyone seems to know each other. Great spot for both breakfast and lunch — simple, satisfying, and affordable. Definitely coming back.
